Some stamps that appear to be similar in reality have small printed differences. Such differences are barely noticeable and often require a magnifying glass to view. These stamps are usually categorized into types. For example, type I of a stamp may have a small framing line on the top and bottom of the stamp, while type II will only have one line at the top. In cases such as these, it is a good idea to consult identifier chart such as the H.E. Harris & Co. United States Stamp Identifier or the Scott Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue.
