1937 Navy Issue - Farragut and Porter Commemorative

The U.S.S. Wichita was the first and only Wichita Class Heavy Cruiser. Launched in 1937, it was commissioned in 1939. The Wichita saw action in the Atlantic and Pacific. In the Atlantic she escorted convoys and supported the invasion of North Africa. In the Pacific she fought in the Aleutians, Marshall Islands, Saipan, the Philippines and Okinawa. She ended her career in the Pacific and was struck from the Navy List in 1959.
