1965 Appomatox Centennial Commemorative

The Battle of Appomattox Courthouse was not the last battle of the Civil War. Instead it was the last battle of General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. While many other Confederate units surrendered upon hearing word of Lee's surrender, the fighting did not finally end until June 23rd, 1865.
