Revenue Stamps

Definition: Revenue stamps are often collected by postage stamp collectors and are sometimes included in a postage stamp catalog of the country of origin. Great Britain issued stamps that did double duty as postage and tax payment. United States revuenues, such as the one pictured, paid for everything from document tax to tax on photos in the Civil War era, to playing cards tax.
