Flatten the stamps only when they are completely dry, otherwise you may damage the stamp. There are two recommended methods for doing this:
  • Place the stamps as flat as possible on a paper towel, piece of glassine, or other piece of blank paper on a flat surface (like a table), then place another sheet on top of them. Cover all the stamps with a large book, such as a dictionary (make sure no part of a stamp is sticking out). Let it sit for a few days.
  • Place the stamps in a phone book, dictionary or similar book for a few days. Just remember that you put them there. You may want to put the book away somewhere safe or put a note on it so someone else does not accidentally scatter the stamps.

Once the stamps are flattened then they will be ready to go into an album or other display. As you get more skilled at soaking you will be able to use bigger bowls and soak more stamps at once.
