This issue is the third stamp to celebrate the holiday of Kwanzaa. Kwanzaa is a celebration from December 26 to January 1 that draws upon African traditions to celebrate family and community. It was first celebrated in 1967. Celebrations include African music and decoration, as well as discussion of African heritage. The holiday has grown in popularity over the years and is observed by many Americans of African and non-African descent.
