Lighthouses along the Gulf Coast are subject to a unique set of conditions which make their survival difficult. The ground along much of the coast is quite moist, even swampy which makes finding a solid foundation difficult. The other major factor are hurricanes which are frequent in the region. The lighthouses depicted include:
- Matagorda Island, TX
- Sabine Pass, LA
- Biloxi, MS
- Sand Island, AL
- Fort Jefferson, FL
