Still scared (or more likely amused) by the word philately? All it means is the study of stamps and postal items, including covers, usually of the postal history variety. Think of a philatelist as something to graduate to from stamp collector. Though many never do, that's OK. But some like to kick it up a notch and that means they're going to consider more than just stamps. But if you'd rather bring it down a notch, there is always deltiology. I know, another funny word, but it may hold more appeal to you than collecting postal history. After all, it's only postcard collecting.
