For the serious collector of war stamps every day is Veterans Day. War, as always, is hell and all that changes about it is the why and how it's fought.
The navy stamp pictured here shows sailors who had no doubt about what they were fighting for, or who the enemy was. Their smiling faces belie the hard time the photograph was taken -- in the era of Word War II. Things aren't so black and white in the 21st century, but one thing remains as true now as it did then. Stamp collectors are fascinated with philatelic depictions and commemorations of war. It must be the latent historian in most of us.
Read War and Stamp Collecting to find out what such a collection is made of. And perhaps to find why the sailors are smiling.
