Permanent Greeting Cards

Permanent means forever, at least when you are talking about the non-denominational stamps of the Canada and the United States. Non-denominational stamps are stamps that do not have a price listed on them. Some are used as supplemental stamps to assist in a rate hike transition like the U.S. alphabet stamps (“A”,”B”, “C”, etc.). Others are like the Canadian “Permanent” and U.S. “Forever” issues are good for whatever the current rate for the service class the stamp is mean for.

Non-denominational issues make an excellent theme for collectors, especially those new to the hobby. The first of these issues, the U.S. “A” stamp came out in 1975, which means that they are relatively new and easier to acquire. Today is the issue date of Canada Post’s newest Permanent stamp, celebrating the greeting card. This stamp is a self-adhesive booklet release and there will be a first day cover available. More information can be found on the Canada Post website. Take a look and maybe start a new line of collecting.
