On the 11th Hour...

Tuesday November 11, 2008
Ninety years ago today, on the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month of 1918, the fighting stopped on the fields of Europe. The most destructive war up to that point finally ended. This day would be known as Armistice Day, becoming a national holiday, eventually known as Veterans Day. Stamps have a long history of honoring those who have served and the conflicts in which they fought, as shown in this gallery. Hopefully some day in the future we won’t need to put such things on stamps. But until then we should remember those who gave of themselves to serve their country.
